Indulgence at the Longhouse

The Longhouse. Where to even start. Heading there with high expectations after reading countless stellar articles in esteemed architectural publications, we still weren't prepared for the truly breathtaking place that awaited us.
The Longhouse has found a striking balance between immense grandeur and cosy homeliness. Our two-bedroom accommodation was so unique, intimate and super vibrant, while the indoor garden was expansive, serene and rich with greenery, birds and butterflies.
What the articles didn’t prepare us for, was the incredible hospitality shown by hosts Ronnen and Trace. Going above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay and experienced the best the region had to offer, we were also lucky enough to have a delicious home-cooked meal with Ronnen and Trace on the second night of our stay, getting to know the inspiring people behind the inspiring place.
We loved roaming the fields with the farm animals, drinking in the awe-inspiring sunsets and eating, drinking, driving and swimming our way around the region. We feel so grateful to have experienced the way of life at the Longhouse’s farm, cooking school, hospitality venture and home.

Renowned for its rich goldrush history, Castlemaine offered an awesome, eclectic mix of markets, cafes, arts and great food. We wandered through The Mill, looking at vintage wares, drinking delicious wine in the sun at Boomtown and stocking up on cheese and smoked meats....

Thanks to a very much-appreciated tip-off from Ronnen, we indulged in an amazing long lunch at Guildford Vineyard and Cellar. With so many beautiful flavours across a variety of dishes, we didn’t want this lunch to end! We were sure to buy a nice bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon for later....

The perfect Sunday morning activity! We’re so grateful to Ronnen for giving us our very own private soap-making lesson! Using ingredients derived from the farm, we learnt how to make lush, fresh soap. A dream!...

We were lucky to have scored some beautiful warm weather during our weekend away. So after downing a yum chicken and salad roll from the Hepburn General Store, we dived into the Daylesford lake for a cool off. It was so nice to see families fishing around the lake too....

Two strong steers, a nurturing cow, two cute calves, two curious goats, four friendly dogs, heaps of hungry pigs and a whole lot of ducks. Roaming the farm at sunset with Trace and meeting the animals of the Daylesford Longhouse was an experience for the books!...
