Countryside Stunner

Time slows right down at the NZ Summer House. Morning adventures are followed by lazy afternoons by the pool. Two nights felt like a whole week of relaxation and fun.

Upon arrival, the mature trees that surround the countryside property make it feel like there isn't another person for miles, even though you are only 30 minutes drive from the city. This is the ultimate 'staycation' spot for Aucklanders who feel like getting away - but without the big road trip.

Our evenings consisted of chilling beside the outdoor fireplace, followed by a bath on the back deck with a front-row seat to the starry night sky. During the day, the pool was bliss to help us cool down from the summer heat. BBQ, coffee machine, complimentary wine, huge comfortable bed and couch - NZ Summer House has everything you need to unwind.

We were spoilt for choice on what to do in the area, whether it be a bush walk just down the road, surfing on the beautiful Muriwai Beach or a lazy brunch at a local cafe, there is something for everyone.

See the stunning Tākapu (Australasian Gannet) nesting within arms reach and soaring above your head. Enjoy the breathtaking views of wild Muriwai Beach and the Tasman Sea. Also, check out the hidden cave below the cliff - accessed from Maukatia Bay beach....

The Muriwai Deli is set up beneath the old 100-year-old Muriwai Lodge. Run by the talented Double Parked Brothers, they make the best toasted sandwiches you'll ever eat! Hot tip: head out the back to grab a table with a lush view of the bush. Don't leave without trying their cinnamon scrolls and grab a loaf of kumara & rosemary sourdough to enjoy for lunch the next day!...

The wind briefly swung offshore, so we jumped in the car for a quick afternoon surf. This break is heaps of fun on a rising mid-tide and onlookers get an epic view of the beach, even from the car park....
