Horsing around in Gembrook

If you're looking for peace and quiet without having to travel too far, look no further than this quaint cottage in Gembrook. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Walter’s beautiful horses and the serene charm of Gembrook.

We settled in on our first night by lighting a fire and listening to the kookaburras laugh as the sun set and the fire crackled. After a cosy and restful night in, we set out to explore the area—starting with a visit to a local café, a short stroll to a nearby waterfall (just a 3-minute drive from the property!), and a trip to the local pub where we played a few humble games of pool and enjoyed a delicious meal.

That evening, we returned to the cottage to explore the property’s land and truly unplug from Melbourne’s hustle and bustle. The following morning, we breathed in Gembrook’s crisp, fresh air and paid another visit to the horses.

If you’re seeking slowness and a chance to feel grounded, we highly recommend Walter’s humble and cosy cottage.

This short, easy yet rewarding walk to ship rock waterfall is a great way to burn off lunch. On a warm day there are even small swimming holes to cool off in, and extra long walking tracks through the nearby Kurt kiln park for the more adventurous.

A short walk from Gembrook station on the puffing billy line, Spencers is the best place in town for a coffee and a feed.
Set in a lovely old weatherboard building under a tree, it's a must do brekky spot
