Cosy Mid-Winter Cottage Escape

It’s easy to settle into the slower pace of the Mohaka River Valley. Nestled among rolling countryside, the handcrafted cottage felt peaceful and secluded, with Peter and Tammy making us feel right at home. Freshly made goodies were waiting for us, while the crackling fire quickly became the place we gravitated to.

During our stay, we mixed relaxing at the cottage with a few local experiences. One day was spent travelling to Napier, stopping in for toasted sandwiches with a beach view before a tasting at Crab Farm Winery. One of us also tried trout fishing, which ended up being a highlight and a great way to try out the on-property experiences.

Back at the cottage, we spent quiet evenings reading by the fire, and making the most of the cosy space. Even in the middle of winter, the cottage felt warm and inviting, making it just as enjoyable to stay in as it was to head out and explore.

Whether you're looking to spend your days trying something new, or exploring the surrounding region, this handcrafted cottage offers a relaxing escape in the heart of the Mohaka River Valley.

A great stop to sample some local wines. The tasting room is complete with an indoor fire, makes for a cosy place to enjoy a glass of Pinot Noir (with a great menu if you’re also feeling peckish). The nearby Art Shed is also worth a visit, showcasing a range of local artwork.

A spontaneous stop during our trip led us to this little gem along the Napier waterfront. At Roam Cafe, we grabbed one of their toasted sandwiches before taking the short walk across to the beach to enjoy it with views over the ocean.

A memorable experience right on the property, offering the chance to try trout fishing in the Mohaka River Valley. Peter’s local knowledge of the best spots to fish made the experience even more enjoyable and added something unique to our time spent in the Valley.
