Walhalla Coach House - Charming Guest House in Beautiful Walhalla

The Coach House is a unique 3 bedroom (plus downstairs games room with additional bunk beds), 2 bathroom home suitable for families or small groups of up to 10 people. Featuring polished timber floors, a cosy wood fire, gas heating, BBQ, pool table, and large kitchen, it overlooks Stringer's Creek and has magnificent views of the Walhalla bushland.

While staying at the Coach House you will experience the serenity of a real bush environment. It is very peaceful and private with the only sounds the birds and the rushing water of Stringer's Creek below. You are 10 minutes walking distance from the pub and about 20 minutes from the rest of the town.

Everything is walking distance, and the house sits above the tourist railway line, a 1 minute walk away. There is parking for 3 vehicles in the driveway. Walhalla has just one long main road and we are the first house you will see from the road as you come into town. The pub is a 10 minute walk and then it's a further 10 minutes to the rest of the shops. The gold mine is another 10 minutes on, and you can walk to the top of the town along the road in half an hour, depending on your pace, and return via the walking track that gives a view over the town. This track continues a further 5 kilometres to Thomson River and you can catch the tourist train back if you time it right.

As of 2022, The Coach House is connected to the electricity grid, and WiFi is available.

There are limited options for eating out in Walhalla, but there is a kitchen complete with cooking utensils for your use. You will be provided with some milk, coffee, tea, sugar, as well as basic condiments such as salt, pepper and oil. For grocery/food shopping, we recommend purchasing anything you may need in Moe or Traralgon as there are no grocery shops in the township of Walhalla. The post office has a few necessities should you need, but the options are very limited.

The Walhalla Witchery Cafe does terrific coffee and lunch (try their delicious scones!) and is open 10:00am until 4:00pm most days.

The Goldfields Train Station close to Stringer’s Cottage is open some days for a few hours: here they serve coffee, tea and excellent lunch fare. It is only open on weekends, most public and school holidays, but is not open all day.

The Walhalla Pub (The Wally Pub) does excellent parmigiana and steak dishes among other things. Please note it is only open Wednesday to Sunday at the following times:

Weekdays - Lunch: 12.00pm - 2.00pm (excluding Monday & Tuesday)
Dinner: 6.00pm - 7.30pm
Weekends - Lunch: 12.00pm - 2.30pm
Dinner: 6.00pm - 8.00pm

On the weekends especially, the Wally Pub can be in high demand. In all cases, it is best to ring ahead and book so that you can be assured of getting a table. The number for the Wally Pub is 0460 516 228.

For a luxurious, home-style Italian meal, Assagio del Forno is an excellent choice that we highly recommend. Assagio del Forno is only open on Sundays from 11.00am-7.00pm, and to book a table, you will need to email: [email protected]. Assagio del Forno is a 20-minute drive from Walhalla Guesthouses, in Coopers Creek. Aside from amazing pizza, AdF also make incredible bagels. If you can't fit them in at lunch, order some to take away: you won't regret it.
