Eco-Luxe At Mount Avoca

Mount Avoca is Australia’s most highly awarded organic winery, offering a beautiful and relaxed cellar-door experience along with award winning fully ACO-certified organic wines. It's not just our wines that are better for the world; our three 'Eco-Luxe' lodges are architect designed using ecological principles, meaning every aspect of your visit to Mount Avoca reflects a commitment to the environment and love and respect for nature. Matthew Barry, our owner, was brought up with a 'clean and green' ethos, thanks to his father's involvement as a pioneer in the Ausvit minimal spray program in the 1980s. In the 1990s, the winery began to use native Australian insects to attack caterpillars and has since made use of other natural remedies and pest control methods. Becoming a fully certified organic winery was the natural next step. Building luxury accommodation was the next step – and doing it without using any concrete was the next challenge; cement production is the world's single biggest industrial cause of carbon pollution. The foundations are fully demountable and recyclable, while each lodge has its own water tank, spotted gum floors and plantation grown cypress pine cladding is used. Mountain bikes are available and there are some wonderful bike and walking trails nearby. While the wineries are the obvious attraction, the region boasts a rich history with gold-mining bringing in thousands of miners from around the world in the 1850s – the remnants still remain and are fun to find and visit. Generous breakfast provisions are provided – along with trophy winning wine. Hampers are available by arrangement and the tranquillity is unlimited.
