Backbeach Retreat is a relaxed, spacious hideaway nestled at the base of the Mornington Peninsula National Park on Boon Wurrung Country. The vibe is bespoke, eclectic, chill. With the Alba/ Peninsula Hot Springs just 2 mins away, and Napean beach track 20 mtrs from the front door, it’s perfect for an all seasons break.
Hear the mood of Bass Strait lounging on the deck, or throw open the doors, bliss out on a mid century couch, or swing away in a hammock with black cockatoos and sweeping casuarinas for company.
The house had been an abandoned shell for almost two decades before we took it on and rebuilt it from the inside out. We used recycled materials throughout, salvaging a lot of what was on site with some low impact additions.
There’s lots of nooks and specially placed sun soaked chairs, as well as generous communal space for cooking and deep chats. We only play vinyl : )
Two queen bedrooms downstairs, open lounge/ kitchen/ dining, glammed up bathroom, plus a second outdoor deck bathroom with pink tub. Upstairs is a loft with small fold out couch (best suited for teens/ kids).
Indigenous species have been reintroduced to the front garden, and the back space brings together a large, sun drenched terrace flanked by a hand built drystone wall, a wedge of lush lawn, and mixed plantings of natives, fruit trees and hardy exotics.
The entire house is wrapped by front and back decks with lounges and swinging options. Plus a fire pit for winter gatherings.
What else. Bed linen and bath towels provided. Loads of condiments, spices plus veggie patch for seasonal greens. BYO all beach and hot springs gear.
Re accessibility- there are steps to both entrances (three). It also means our place isn’t recommended for pre school aged children- stairs, open decks etc. It won’t be relaxing! And we don’t host parties, bux, hens, schoolies etc. Soz but that’s not the vibe.

Hey! I’m a PhD candidate in Anthropology. I do other stuff- creative director, events producer, writer, parent, excellent cooking buddy, gardener, and I frequently wander aimlessly. My partner and I bought Brewsters as an abandoned shell and have lovingly repaired, restored and replanted. We really dig curating special experiences for like minded folk- bespoke, fun, restful.
