COTTAGE & BOATHOUSE DETAILS
PLEASE NOTE for bookings of 4 nights or more contact the owners for special pricing.
Beautiful accommodation looking out over breath taking views of the Hawkesbury river. Originally built in the 1920s, this cottage haven has been lovingly restored and is the perfect holiday retreat for up to three couples or a family with children. Enjoy your stay in the intimate boathouse or studio or enjoy the rooms of the cottage house.
All the original buildings still exist at Amaroo and have been faithfully restored by the present owners. French doors from the main cottage lounge and master bedroom open onto a large verandah that captures the morning light all year round and endless river views.
The newly renovated kitchen designed by Karen Sole blends perfectly with the slow combustion stove that is recessed in the original sand stone kitchen wall.
The master bedroom, with a queen size Posturepedic bed, has French doors that open onto the front deck.
The second bedroom has 2 single beds supplied by Harrods of London.
The third bedroom, located in the Studio next to the Boathouse, has a double bed and views over its own deck directly onto the river. Please note, the only toilet facilities are in the main house, therefore this may not be suitable for some people during the winter months.
The bathroom, although private, has views over the garden and the second "loo with a view" contains a washing machine and dryer.
The secluded tranquil gardens and boatshed right on the water's edge offer complete relaxation and a stunning place to celebrate by the river. The outdoor gardens tables, studio deck and private boatshed are perfect for afternoon drinks before retreating to the cottage. The gardens have been designed by Michael Bligh and the contractor Michael Bates (now himself a well known designer).
The pergola, festooned with giant honeysuckle has a gas barbecue.
GUEST ACCESS
A gas BBQ is ideally located on the lawn by the waters edge. The outdoor garden tables, studio, studio deck, private boatshed with own deck are the ideal place for daytime snacks and evening drinks. Amaroo offers complete relaxation by the river whilst listening to your favourite music from the stereo.
We give instructions how to moor your boat and if you have hired a tinny how to moor it. If you take a water taxi, the taxi driver can leave a tinny for you to explore the Hawkesbury River. Take a picnic and go to a sandy beach.

GETTING THERE:
Transport is by means of water taxi, hire boat, ferry (restricted to one weekday service per day) or own boat. Car parking is at Brooklyn, the Mooney Mooney ramp or Kangaroo Point. Normally we would recommend the Mooney Mooney ramp for launching your own boat and Kangaroo Point for water taxi pickup. The car parking is pretty good at both and Brooklyn can be difficult if you are not hiring a tinny. Relevant numbers follow.
- Hawkesbury Water Taxis 0422 300 100. Neale can also leave you a tinny tied to our jetty for you to explore the Hawkesbury river and sandy coves for not a great deal of additional charge.
- An alternative service is the ferry, the River Postman, departing Brooklyn 10.00 AM WEEKDAYS ONLY and Kangaroo Point at 10.40 AM which is run by Justin on 0400600111 or email [email protected]. This service arrives at Amaroo Cottage at about 11.15 am. Bookings are essential.
However before using this service, you must agree the timings with us as dependent on other bookings, it may not be possible to allow you such an early arrival
- A further alternative is to hire a tinny with a 6 HP motor from one of the water front marinas in Brooklyn and drive yourselves up so long as the marina lets the tinny be retained overnight and returned on the afternoon of your departure. We have a special deal with Brooklyn Central on: 9985 8870. If you do this, please watch the tides because the hire boats are much slower than the taxis.
- We advise guests who are bringing their own boat how to moor from the end of our jetty.
PLEASE NOTE for bookings of 4 nights or more contact the owners for special pricing.
