Pet-friendly
Sit back, relax and enjoy nature literally on the doorstep and epic valley views or make this your perfect base for adventure. The Cabin backs on to Alpine National Park, is walking distance to the renowned for fly fishing Bundarra River and a short drive to Middle Creek and the Cobungra and Mitta Rivers.
It is a beautiful area for walking whether you are contemplative stroller a seasoned hiker. You can take a chilled walk along Callaghans Road and take in the beautiful scenery, wildlife and horses on the neighbouring properties. You can also enjoy the local mountain bike tracks in Omeo (40 minute drive) and Falls Creek (1hr drive). In winter, a 1 hour 30 minute drive to Hotham makes the Cabin a great ‘off mountain’ option for skiing day trips. To complement your chosen activies or to simply relax, your host Jen is a qualified yoga instructor and offers private yoga classes for guests at the Cabin.
When it is warmer, borrow our towels and head down to the river for a swim, have a BBQ on the deck, play Petanque with a view and toast marshmallows on the outdoor fire. As it cools down, fire up the woodheater inside and enjoy the excellent selection of books, jigsaws and board games. There is also an outdoor shower with warm water and a beautiful view of the valley.
The Blue Duck Inn in Anglers Rest is a 3km walk/drive from the Cabin and serves lunch and dinner in a scenic spot on the Cobungra River. The nearest town for groceries is Omeo which is a 35 minute drive and also has two pubs for dining, a brewhouse which also serves food, a hardware store, cafe, bakery and some local shops.
The Cabin is totally off the grid, meaning we rely on renewable energy sources and responsible resource management. Rain water is collected in tanks and all power is generated by solar panels.
The kitchen has a large electric fridge/freezer, a gas stove and oven plenty of cutlery, utensils, pots, pans, glasses and crockery. There is also flourishing herb garden containing mint, chives, parsley, thyme, sage and rosemary. The sheltered large deck provides a beautiful view down the valley and towards the mountains.

Additional Information
It is in the middle of everywhere and the middle of nowhere!
You will also have limited phone signal for the last hour of your drive from any direction.
From Melbourne - it is approximately a 6 hour drive from Melbourne with options to come via Hotham, Falls Creek, Bairnsdale or Wodonga. All routes are a similar time frame but during winter the Falls Creek road is not an option and snow chains are required for the Hotham road. Bairnsdale is the best route during the winter.
From Sydney - it is approximately an 8 hour drive from Sydney via the M31 to Albury, then along Lake Hume before joining the Omeo Highway and continuing via Mitta Mitta (as below).
From Canberra - it is approximately a 6 hour drive from Canberra via the M31 to Albury, then along Lake Hume before joining the Omeo Highway and continuing via Mitta Mitta (as below).
Coming from the Omeo direction (Hotham or Bairnsdale), Omeo is your last option for petrol (there is a 24 hr pump). You then follow the Omeo Highway for 35-40 minutes (or longer if you take your time and take in the beautiful views). It is a windy road so it is recommended to allow yourself time for this part of the drive. After about 35 minutes you will see a sign that you are entering Anglers Rest and shortly after pass the Blue Duck Inn on your left (open for lunch and dinner). The road doubles back on itself and soon after there is a steep left turn up Callaghans Road. Follow this road for about 2.5km and just as the trees start to clear you will see the sign for Brown's Cabin and the steep driveway on the left. Take this driveway all the way up to the Cabin where you can park.
Coming from the Mitta Mitta direction (Wodonga/Albury), along the Omeo Highway it will take you about 1 hour 30 minutes from Mitta Mitta (last stop for petrol and only within business hours). You will pass the turn off to Falls Creek (Bogong High Plains Road) on your right, keep going and come through Glen Valley. About 20-25 minutes after Glen Valley there is a steep right turn up Callaghans Road (opposite Anglers Rest Camping Ground and BEFORE you reach the Blue Duck Inn). Follow this road for about 2.5km and just as the trees start to clear you will see the sign for Brown's Cabin and the steep driveway on the left. Take this driveway all the way up to the Cabin where you can park.
Coming from Falls Creek, you will join the Omeo Highway at the bottom of Bogong High Plains Road and follow the directions as above.
