Consciously designed and thoughtfully appointed, Sheoak Shanty is a beautiful and unique space. It is very special to us and we look forward to sharing it with you.
The cottage is located in a small water-access only settlement of 44 houses, around 5 kilometers up river from Brooklyn. It is a quiet and peaceful place - lots of trees, an incredibly beautiful river, and plenty of wildlife.

THINGS TO DO
Sheoak Shanty is the perfect place to reflect and create. Read, bird-watch, river-watch, meditate, contemplate, draw, write, eat.
If you are keen for some action, we suggest the following:
Bushwalks: There's a couple of short bushwalks you can do while here.
Fishing: Lots of flathead and brim to be caught from our jetty.
Boating: BYO boat and explore mangrove forests, berowra creek, remote river beaches. We can suggest places to visit.
Paddleboarding or kayaking: We have one paddle-board you can borrow. BYO kayak.
Swimming: At high tide you can swim from the beach in front of Sheoak Shanty.
Guest access
The entire space, including adjacent outdoor areas (deck and garden on river bank), is yours.
Other things to note
SUPPLIES
Bring food and drinks for your entire stay – there are no shops nearby (We live onsite, so if you forget an ingredient just ask).
RUBBISH
Take all rubbish with you when you leave - we don't have council rubbish pickups.
WATER
Please have quick showers and avoid wasting water – we have limited tank water supplies. Filtered water is available to drink in the kitchen.
TRANSPORT
This is a boat-access only location. Whether hiring a boat, using your own, or arriving by water taxi, your point of departure will be Brooklyn (about an hour north of Sydney CBD). You can get to Brooklyn via car or train.
Hire boats can be rented from Brooklyn Central or Brooklyn Marina (best for driving to Brooklyn) or Hawkesbury River Marina (best if arriving to Brooklyn via train).
SHARING
We live permanently in the main house. The two buildings are about 20 meters apart and separated by a dense garden, providing substantial privacy.
The path to the jetty is shared - sometimes we'll need to pass through the Sheoak Shanty garden to get to our boat. This will be minimal.
DOGS
There are no gates between She-Oak Shanty, the main house, and our neighbour's house. Luna (our dog, a cattle x Jack Russel) and Charlie (our neighbours dog, Kelpie) will want to meet you. Both are very friendly.
PRIVACY
There's a path behind She-Oak Shanty that our neighbours sometimes use. The inside of the building is screened from views from the path (when curtains closed), but if you're sitting outside in the late afternoon you may be greeted by a friendly neighbor or two walking their dogs.
