Woofing Good Waves and Wood Fires

For those of us with fur babies, is it even a holiday if you can't take them along? Arriving at Barrawarn Beach House to dog treats and a lush pup-friendly backyard, our border collie felt as welcomed as we did!

This beautiful home in the quiet streets of surf-side Rye is the ideal all-season getaway for a group of mates or families with older children. We loved the beautifully styled warm timber tones that met with bright and airy rooms.

After getting the open wood fire roaring we settled in to the space for our first evening where lots of laughter was had over a home-cooked lasagne at the gorgeous timber table. A very sunny first Saturday of Spring allowed us to hit the local beaches just a stone's throw from the house where we could run out the kid's energy on the sand and watch waves roll into the cliffs. At low tide, there's an incredible rock formation called the Dragon's Head and the closest beach to the house catches a superb sunset.

We hit some balls at the Trueman Golf Range for something a little different. The build-your-own wood-fired pizzas there have gotta be the best on the peninsula! What an unexpected yet enjoyable atmosphere it was amidst the sunshine, beers and tunes by the green, making for such a chilled-out place to spend an afternoon.

The Peninsula always feels the kind of place that will keep calling us to return again and again. Whether that's for the seemingly endless choice of beach spots to check out, or so many delightful food and wine offerings, it's such a choice location to come back to.

This part of the Peninsula has beaches aplenty. Checkout Gunnamatta for some wild surf or hit the walking track in the Point Nepean National Park for bush and beach views galore.

It's not a driving range but it's an equally fun spot for golfers and non golfers alike. Your group can choose whether they hit some balls or simply go for the amazing pizzas on offer. Enjoy some eats and drinks in the sunshine. Doggies welcome!

Head to one of the more westerly facing beaches to catch those golden rays across the ocean at sundown.

We opted for a DIY brunch at our accommodation to make the most of the beautiful place we were staying. Grabbing a tasty selection of antipasto and sweets from local delis we served it all up on a board. The end result is a platter to rival the bought ones!

I'm gonna make a call that these pizzas are the best in the area. You build your own toppings from an incredible list of fresh ingredients and they do the hard work for you. Served with a cold beer or one of the many different fruit ciders they go down a treat.

Number 16 Beach has a beautiful sandy beach to walk along, but also an easily missed track to some wild clifftop views. Such an ace spot to watch the waves roll in and smash against the cliffs. When you arrive at the car park walk back to near the entrance you'll find a gate that leads to the cliffs.
