Hit the go slow in Mokau

Adventure in Mokau, Waikato, NZ
Nestled between rugged coastline and rolling hillside the Mokau Beach house is the perfect opportunity to escape the rat race and take in the serenity.

With beach access off the back deck, you can while away your days exploring caves right off your doorstep, walk the beach till your footsteps disappear in a mirror of sea and sand behind you or brave the chilly conditions for a dip, a surf or try your hand at fishing.

Back at the house, you are shrouded in warmth from the biggest fireplace I've ever seen. You can just sit back, make yourself a cuppa, and admire the view back up the coast toward the mighty Taranaki Maunga. No trip to this part of the countryside is complete without a whitebait fritter, and the food truck in town is a must and only a few minutes down the road.

If you are looking for a break in comfort and elegance with quintessential NZ landscapes as a backdrop, I’d highly recommend having a look at this little beauty. The highlight for me, was soaking it up in the outdoor bath overlooking the ocean and Taranaki Maunga.

Having an outdoor bath is always a highlight experience for me. Mokau is one of the few views of Taranaki Maunga with the ocean in front of It and it makes one of the most surreal and calming views to enjoy that in the bath was a dream come true.

There are many different access to the river depending if you are wanting to fish, take a boat out, go for a swim, a walk or simply just relax on the sand. It's such a beautiful river - a hot spot destination on the map for white baiting.

There is a private access down to the beach where you can swim, have a bonfire, check out the caves or go for a long walk. You can also access the beach publicly by heading to Awakino beach. With fresh snow on the mountain we decided to freshen up with a quick dip and make the most of the prime location.

There can always be a couple of waves to be found around Mokau, choosing from both right and left-handers, on both sides of the river mouth and a long the beach. We made the most of our amazing location that had a private access to the beach.
Enjoy the picturesque landscapes surrounding you while rising with the sun, from the comfort of your bed, having a bath, on the deck, or down the beach.
