Girls' Luxury Getaway

Arriving just at sunset at the Forrest Retreat, the dusk sky was moody and wild. Two of my loveliest friends joined me for a girls-only getaway in Forrest, part of the Otways National Park. We were in rainforest central and delighted to be there. We each picked a room, found the complimentary sock drawer, and helped ourselves to the comforts of the retreat. With champagne on arrival, we toasted to the outrageously fabulous single girl lives we lead and to the weekend ahead. That night, we prepared a cheese platter for dinner and laughed our faces off into the night. Life is pretty peachy with these two.

I enjoyed a morning bath while Amber made us freshly squeezed orange juice. This retreat really did have it all. I mean, if there’s a sock drawer, why wouldn’t there be a juice maker? Each bathtub was filled with delightful scents to help you relax. It didn’t take long for me to drift into a state of peace. Amber and I spent the afternoon chasing the sun from one lounge window to another, sipping tea and juice while reading all the books. Robbie felt a bit more adventurous, so she took herself on a little self-discovery walk to Lake Elizabeth.

The girl gang reunited just at sunset, sitting around the outdoor fire, sharing disaster date stories and inspiring each other about where we’ll travel next. It was such a feel-good kind of night. We were vibing high. We relaxed all morning, and Robbie made us heartfelt pancakes. The kitchen had everything we needed, including a QR code we could scan to order meals and wine! Fancy, my friends, for this home away from home.

Amber and I took a walk to the General Store, which was literally just around the corner. We grabbed a coffee and one for Robbie, who was enjoying the outdoor tub back at our retreat. I bet she went extra on the bubbles. #YeahGirl. With a coffee in one hand and a loaf of homemade sourdough in the other, Amber and I wandered back. By lunch, we checked out of the luxury abode feeling recharged, relaxed, and with full hearts. It had been forever since I had a girls' getaway, and these two were all the love I needed.

Before we left Forrest, we tried to explore a few waterfalls, but due to the recent wild weather (which, ahh… wasn’t our fault, okay friends!), we were unable to reach several of the falls because of fallen trees blocking the roads. We know we’ll be back, Jumpin’ Jac, so no worries! We found the local reservoir and strolled around, taking in the views, wildflowers, and giant trees. Amber found a fishing net and did her best to catch lunch, but we soon realized all the fish were on holiday just like us! Ha! Plus, let’s be honest—Amber’s the real catch here.

That afternoon, we parted ways, leaving with all the warm fuzzy feels after our getaway in Forrest. What a time to be alive!

Great photo spots before you arrive at Lake Elizabeth as well as the loop around Lizzie. You are literally submerged in the Otway National Park of rainforest goodness.

The local Weir is an easy walk with some nice views of the Lake/Reservoir. There's also an awesome bike trial too here and plenty more around Forrest.
