Gentle Vibes in the Countryside
Adventure in Warncoort, Great Ocean Road, VIC, AU
The moment I stepped out of the car the air felt different. Cooler. Earthy. Quiet in a way that settles your nervous system straight away. No traffic. No rush. Just open paddocks and the soft sounds of country life. This was a generational wool farm at Warncoort, Victoria and it was exactly where my solo soul needed to land. This humble abode is beautifully positioned about an hour and a half from Melbourne and acts as a gateway to the Otways and the Great Ocean Road. It makes an ideal base for exploring before returning to the deep quiet of the countryside.
The cottage felt instantly inviting. Two storeys, high beam ceilings and beautiful original features that gave the space character. Upstairs the loft styled bedroom opened into a little study nook with an old school typewriter, the kind that makes you want to slow your thoughts and put them somewhere meaningful. Fresh homegrown flowers filled the house and the open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area made it easy to settle in and stay present. The shower was bliss too, strong water pressure and wicked good smelling soaps! Outside the front door, a huge oak tree stood beside the house surrounded by cottage style gardens that felt lovingly tended. Sheep grazed nearby, livin' their best life as I was too. Their wool grown here and later transformed into beautiful handmade pieces. Mornings smelled fresh and green. Coffee tasted better. Time stretched in the best way. It really was the place to be to reset and nature ones soul.
One of the highlights of my stay was sharing morning tea and coffee with Tom, the host and his parents. It was such a genuine and wholesome experience chatting about the farm, the wool and the land itself. We spent time weaving together and explored the property wool shop, where everything felt connected back to the paddocks just outside the door. Felt like home to me. Before drifting home I was feeling extra brave to go outside my comfort zone at Yeodene Treetop Adventures. Equal parts terrifying and exhilarating, the climb was a full body workout and a massive confidence boost. The team were SO encouraging and supportive and it felt like all my childhood tree climbing dreams coming true!
This solo stay was grounding, calming and deeply restorative. A reminder that travelling alone can be one of the most powerful ways to reconnect with yourself. If you have been craving stillness, space and a place that truly lets you breathe, this pocket of country paradise is one worth experiencing my friends.
